While it is not necessary to coat our canvases before painting (ours are good quality and not “raw”) – some customers like gesso especially for designs with a lot of lighter colours.
- Dalas’ Gesso Primer is a creamy medium used to coat canvases before applying paint to improve the paints adhesion to the canvas.
- Gesso is a high end primer for artists, with a high solid content and a low latex content making it suitable for both acrylic and oil paint applications.
- Using a dampened sponge roller or large soft brush to soft brush coat your canvas with a generous layer of Acrylic Gesso Primer.
- Allow it to dry thoroughly as per instructions on the label.
- Apply oil or acrylic paint to primed canvas
BENEFITS:
- Improves paint adhesion to canvas
- Seals the canvas to stop paint from soaking into the canvas
- Gesso lightens number and lines which is beneficial especially for light colour paints
- Enhances colour vibrancy – colours appear brighter and more opaque
- Protects canvas for increased durability
